During my years of game development, I have had many of my weekends dedicated to Game Jams. These games were important for my development. It is nice to make a game that does not matter. Just 48 of crunch and creativity. The result does not matter, as long as I had fun.
I have had many crazy concept sessions during game jams. When there are no stakeholders and the project can be dropped after, the pressure is way lower. I think some awesome games can pop up from such fun.
My first game jam actually motivated me to learn some programming. I was only able to make art assets before. I like being able to support both the tech and art team. I feel like a little indie dev during these jams, since I can step in wherever to make it work.
